su11 architecture+design was co-founded by Ferda Kolatan and Erich Schoenenberger in New York City in 1999. They have received the Swiss National Culture Award for Art and Design and the ICFF Editors Award for ‘Best New Designer’. In 2006 they were nominated for the prestigious Chernikhov Price and in 2008 they were chosen finalists for the MoMA/PS1 YAP competition. Their work has been published nationally and internationally including Archilab’s Futurehouse, Space, Monitor, L’Arca, Arch+, New New York, PreFAb Modern, Digital Real, The Metapolis Dictionary of Advanced Architecture, AD, Dwell, Le Monde, NY Times, LA Times and the Washington Post. Projects by su11 were exhibited in venues such as the Museum of Modern Art, Walker Art Center, Pasadena Art Center College of Design, Vitra Design Museum, Archilab Orleans, Documenta X, Art Basel and Carnegie Museum of Art.
Erich Schoenenberger, R.A. AIA was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He received his Bachelor of Environmental Design at Tech.School of Nova Scotia in 1993 in Halifax, Canada and his Masters in Architecture from Columbia University in 1995. He worked for Kol/Mac Studio in New York, where he was a Senior Designer from 1995 until 1997. In this period he was the Project Architect for the O/K Apartment, which has been published widely, receiving awards and being exhibited at MoMA as part of the Un-Private House Show. Currently he is also a Visiting Instructor at Pratt Institute.
Ferda Kolatan was born in Cologne, Germany. He received his Architectural Diploma (Dipl.Ing) with distinction from the RWTH Aachen in 1993 and his Masters in Architecture from Columbia University in 1995, where he was the recipient of the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Price and the Honor Award for Excellence in Design. He has taught at Columbia University, University of British Columbia, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the RWTH Aachen. Ferda Kolatan is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and a Visiting Adjuct Professor at Pratt Institute in New York. He also is a Senior Researcher for the NSO (Nonlinear Systems Organization) headed by Cecil Balmond at PennDesign.
